Ping ICMP
Sends four ICMP Echo Requests from the portal server to one validated public IP.
A failed ping does not always mean the destination is down
ICMP Echo traffic may be blocked, filtered or rate-limited while web, DNS, SSH or other TCP/UDP services remain reachable. Ping should therefore be interpreted as one diagnostic signal, not as definitive service availability.
Hostnames are resolved before the system command runs
When a hostname is submitted, the tool obtains its IPv4 A and IPv6 AAAA addresses and rejects the entire target if any resolved address is non-public. The ping process receives only a validated literal IP, reducing the risk of DNS changes being used to reach internal infrastructure.
Both IP families are supported
The Linux iputils ping implementation supports explicit IPv4 and IPv6 operation. If a hostname has both public families, this tool currently prefers IPv4 for compatibility with typical hosting environments; an IPv6-only target is tested with IPv6.
The measurement represents the portal server
Latency and reachability are measured from the server hosting Circuito Carioca TI. They do not represent the route, latency or filtering conditions of the visitor’s own internet connection.
